A friend lost in time?

Just a little over 30 years ago, a gloomy end was met for one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Per Yngve Ohlin, a beautiful blonde hair Swedish man. He was briefly the vocalist for Mayhem and had a separate band Morbid before. I looked up to you in high school. I felt your pain, I saw your troubles, and heard the screams of everything you felt within embodied by your music.

You felt as if you didn't belong here, you weren't a human, nobody truly understood you. You thought you'd be forgotten in time, just another name engraved on stone; but you weren't. I still remember you, and think about you. For you, Pelle, have captivated me as we share a mutual suffering. You have left an impact on my life, one that shaped who I am.

I feel deeply sorry for you but I know that you are free now. You no longer have to suffer, you are no longer trapped by human flesh. I hope that, whatever happens when we die, be it a burning hell or nothing at all, you are finally at peace. You will never be forgotten Pelle <3

The beginning of sorrow

Here on this blog I will write about various things that interest me, as well as vent about things that are frustrating. You might like some of it, or none at all. It may also trigger feelings of sadness or heartbreak.

~You have been warned~

Today I will kick start things with some music. During June of 2012 I fell into a dark depression that has yet to reside. That summer I became more interested in underground black metal bands which eventually led me to a gem. Most of these bands sound the same or have the stereotypical "Satanic" theme which has evolved into a joke these days; but one artist stood out to me in particular. This mastermind is known as Wintherr (Tobias Möckl). He is the leader of Darkspace and has an additional solo project called Paysage D'Hiver.

I have to say without his music I would not be here today. Through cold nights and blood, to dark and even darker, his music has always been there for me. It helped me through the toughest years of my life and I owe a huge thanks to Tobias. Now lets jump into the juicy stuff!

Darkspace is what it sounds like: a droning journey though the vast voids of the universe. You must create the images within your head, they don't just appear there. The music is everything and more, from ambience, to black metal, to breakdowns and speeches about space travel or philosophy. This truly is an amazing experience and their third album Dark Space III stands out the most to me.

As for Paysage D'Hiver (French for Winter Landscape) Wintherr delivers a much colder sounding plane of isolation. Featuring much longer but less complex works than the likes of Darkspace, the music entails long winds and screeches of a man. This man is lonely, in solitude, somewhere deep in the freezing behemoth of Scandinavia. His journey is rough and has moments of hate, sadness, and just sheer desolation and lost hope.

Both of these works can take multiple listens to appreciate them. Most people simply don't have the right mind for it, but for those of you who do I praise you. You are much like me.

Below are two of the best masterpieces in existence. Thanks for your amazing efforts Wintherr <3 You saved a blackened soul from banishing forever.
